What Are Dental Implants?
A dental implant is a titanium cylinder that is implanted in the jaw. It is designed to look and function similar to the root of a natural tooth. An artificial tooth is attached to the implant to serve as a replacement tooth.
Dental implants may be used for a variety of purposes:
- To replace individual teeth
- To anchor a dental bridge or partial denture
- To support removable dentures; an upper or lower denture may be connected to dental implants with attachments similar to snaps, helping to stabilize and retain the denture more firmly

Once the implant is placed, a process called integration takes place in which the implant becomes "integrated" with your body. The process usually takes six to nine months. After this process has occurred, Dr. Fairweather will restore the implant and you will have a beautiful restored tooth.

Dental implants can enhance the quality of your dental health, your ability to chew and speak, and your smile. Dental implants are very successful. Success rates of 95-98% are reported. While no health care procedure can be guaranteed 100%, dental implants have been shown over many years of dental experience to be extremely predictable.
