At Better Image Dentistry, we want to ensure that your dental treatment is as comfortable and painless as possible – whether you are having a dental checkup or hygiene appointment, treatment for a broken or damaged tooth, or cosmetic dentistry.
Sedation with nitrous oxide (N2O), a colorless, odorless gas commonly known as "laughing gas," provides a feeling of relaxation during treatment with no lasting side-effects. It is provided on request at no charge for dental procedures at Better Image Dentistry. A nice thing about nitrous oxide is that you return to feeling perfectly normal and able to drive within 2-3 minutes of it's use.
Better Image Dentistry offers a range of methods for pain management for patients being treated at our office in Bridgewater (Somerset County), NJ. Please contact us for more information.
What Is Nitrous Oxide Sedation?
Nitrous oxide sedation actually involves the administration of two gases, nitrous oxide (N2O) and oxygen (O2) through a mask placed over the patient’s nose. It is one of the safest forms of sedation available in dentistry because it takes effect quickly, is completely reversible, has no side effects, can be adjusted in different concentrations, and leaves the body quickly (1-3 minutes) after the treatment is complete.
What are the Benefits of Nitrous Oxide Sedation?
What Should I Expect if I Have Nitrous Oxide Sedation?
Dr. Fairweather will discuss your dental treatment with you and determine whether nitrous oxide sedation is appropriate. If you choose to have this type of sedation, he and his staff will place a mask over your nose to deliver the nitrous oxide/oxygen mixture. As you continue to breathe normally through your nose, you will begin to feel more and more relaxed. You may feel a tingling sensation in your arms and legs, warm sensations throughout your body, and a general feeling of well-being or euphoria.
When your procedure is complete, Dr. Fairweather will remove the mask from your nose. You should feel awake and completely recovered within a few minutes, and will be able to return to your normal activities immediately.
Is Nitrous Oxide Sedation a Good Option for Me?
Because every patient is unique, Dr. Fairweather and his professional staff will evaluate your specific dental condition to determine whether nitrous oxide sedation is a good option for you. Please contact us to schedule a consultation at our office in Bridgewater, NJ.
