Porcelain Veneers and Bonding

Porcelain veneers provide partial coverage restoration for a tooth. When bonded to a tooth, these thin "shells" of porcelain are very strong. Bonding involves placing a material called composite on the teeth and then sculpting the composite to the desired shape.

Both porcelain veneers and bonding can be used to cover stains, close spaces between teeth, whiten stained or darkened teeth, and even change the shape and length of teeth. Porcelain veneers and bonding are often used together to enhance the appearance of teeth and produce a beautiful, natural-looking smile.

Better Image Dentistry offers a range of porcelain veneer and bonding treatments that can dramatically improve your smile at our office in Bridgewater (Somerset County), NJ. Please contact us for more information.

What Are Porcelain Veneers and Bonding?

  • Porcelain veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are bonded to teeth to improve their color, shape and/or length. In general, a veneer covers only the front and top of a tooth. Veneers can hide a variety of damage and discolorations. They can also protect chipped or worn teeth from further damage and restore their original appearance.

  • Bonding is the process by which your dentist places a material called composite on your teeth, sculpts it to the desired shape, and then hardens it with a special high-intensity light. Bonding can improve the appearance, shape and length of your teeth. Once in place, bonded restorations are very strong.

What are the Benefits of Porcelain Veneers and Bonding?

  • You will enjoy a beautiful, natural looking smile
  • The treatments are relatively quick and painless
  • Even severely stained or misshapen teeth can be restored to a natural, healthy appearance

What Should I Expect if I Have Porcelain Veneers and Bonding?

  • Porcelain veneers: During your first appointment, Dr. Fairweather will shape the teeth and take impressions to create working models of your mouth. We will use those models to accurately craft your veneers to fit the prepared teeth.

During your second appointment, we will clean and polish your prepared teeth, then use an adhesive to bond the veneers to your teeth. Dr. Fairweather will use a safe, high-intensity light to harden the adhesive so that the veneers have a strong bond to your teeth.

  • Bonding: Usually, bonding requires just one appointment. First, Dr. Fairweather will prepare your teeth and apply a conditioning gel. Next, he will place the resin on the teeth to be restored, sculpt it to the desired shape, and use a safe, high-intensity light to harden it.

Whether you have porcelain veneers, bonding, or a combination of both, the result will be a strong restoration and a beautiful, natural-looking smile. You may be surprised at just how good your teeth can look!
